Somiant Productions is a young independent Film and TV production company, created in July 2014, with the main goal of developing and producing high quality Journalism, TV and Film projects all over the world.
The company is based in New York but also operates in Miami, Barcelona and Majorca. However, we view ourselves as a global enterprise and are open to work on any good project no matter where in the world it is located.
Somiant develops and produces its own projects and also collaborates with companies and independent filmmakers who need help to bring their ideas to life. We cover a wide range of genres for both television and cinema, as long as the story-telling is innovative, impactful and exciting. The goal is to create content that is inspiring, thought-provoking and entertaining, always keeping passion and quality as a hallmark.
Founded and spearheaded by filmmaker, scriptwriter and journalist Celia Novis along with producer and journalist Manel Ferrera, who both have extensive film and tv careers and who have continued to grow since they joined together to form this company.
Since its foundation in 2014, Somiant has assisted in the production of two documentary films: “Resistiendo la Ciudad Capitalista” (“Resisting the Capitalist City”), broadcast on Latin American TV channel Telesur and “Global Gentrification”, produced by Inquieta Doc.
Somiant has also produced videos for the American TV channel Univisión Digital and the Spanish TV IB3. Also, has produced commercials for companies like Baleària or Melià Hotels.
Currently, Somiant is producing “Sole Survivor-Única superviviente”, a historical and artistic documentary film about La Nacional-Spanish Benevolent Society, founded in New York in 1868 (the oldest Spanish society in United States). This film has the official support of the Spanish Consulate of New York, the Culture Department of Spanish Government and the Tourism Department of Majorca Government.
Finally, Somiant is also developing a documentary film about the Minorcan heritage in Saint Augustine (FL), co-produced along with Cinètica Produccions, and the TV Series “Alive & Kicking” (set in New York).
Celia Novis (Barcelona, Spain) is the co-founder and President of Somiant Productions. She has degrees in Psychology, in Journalism and in Audiovisual Communication, at universities in Barcelona. She studied Film Direction & Screenwriting in Film Schools of Madrid, Cuba and New York. She wrote, produced and directed 3 short films (shot in Spain and New York) and the feature documentary film “On Vampyres and other Symptoms” (2011), which competed in several international film festivals.
In Barcelona, she worked for some television networks and production companies. Since 2004 she has been publishing several articles and pictures for Spanish and American written media and is also co-author of some books: “The Discredit: Narrative trips around Louis Ferdinand Céline” (Lupercalia Publishers), “A Christmas of death” (Origami Publishers) and “American Jesus”, (to be published). In 2010 and 2011 she was a teacher in the film school Instituto del Cine de Madrid.
In early 2013 she moved to New York where she is working as a freelance video journalist for Univisión, IB3, and as the producer in USA for TV shows of Globomedia, La Sexta (“El Objetivo” de Ana Pastor, “Salvados” de Jordi Évole), among others.
Moreover, she is writing and directing (and co-producing along with Ferrera) the film “Sole Survivor” about the evolution of the oldest Spanish society of the USA (founded in 1868, in NYC), and she is also writing and directing the film “The Minorcan Connection” about the Minorcan heritage in Saint Augustine (Florida, USA) co-produced by Somiant Productions and Cinètica Produccions (to be finished in 2018).
Manel Ferrera is the co-founder and Vice-President of Somiant Productions. He was born in Majorca, Spain. He majored in Journalism at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. From 1999 to 2005 he worked as reporter in Spanish newspapers Diari de Balears and Diario de Mallorca. He produced several reports and covered events as Soccer European Champions League, Tennis Davis Cup or Eurobasket. He also covered Spain’s Election Days and all sections on scene reports. Since 2005 to 2012 he worked for two Spanish TV Channel: IB3TV and TV Mallorca. He was managing the sports section, producing reports for the sports daily news, and he was also doing several on live and on scene works. He was the director, editor, producer and anchor of a weekly TV show called 123 SUS.
Since 2013, he works as a freelance journalist. He is the US Correspondent of the Spanish newspaper ARA. He is covering, producing, writing and shooting reports about politics, business, art, music, science and sports.
From 2014 to 2015 he worked in Miami as a Producer-Coordinator at Imagina-US (Mediapro) and currently he works for the Spanish TV channel IB3.
